Hello, I’m Alex!
I’ve been a chiropractor since 2007 when I graduated from the McTimoney College of Chiropractic in Oxford following a five year degree in Chiropractic.
Alexandra Hurley BSc (Hons) Chiro
MMCA MRCC MIVCA
I initially worked as an associate in two clinics, one in Gloucestershire and one in Oxfordshire. I then decided to take the plunge and work by myself, basing myself in Gloucestershire. I have worked from my current clinic location in Winchcombe for almost two years now.
I enjoy the reward of getting people through painful episodes in their life, educating them about why they are suffering and what they can do, alongside chiropractic, to hopefully prevent painful recurrences.
I’ve done my teacher training with Polestar Pilates in London and I use this a lot to help patients strengthen their bodies once they are out of pain.
My background is equine, I was brought up in rural Ireland by a horse-mad mother and horse-enduring father(!). I did my BHSAI training when I left school and then spent a short while in Germany in a mixed competition yard before coming to the UK for what was meant to be six months…21 years later I am still here!
I trained in Veterinary Chiropractic at The BackBone Academy near Hamburg in Germany in 2017 which was a fantastic course that I really enjoyed. I now treat dressage and racehorses regularly at some local professional yards, so I get my horsey fix! Dogs are also a regular part of practice, with dog sports like agility and working trials becoming increasingly popular.
I love the outdoors so spend a fair few hours in the beautiful countryside walking my Labrador and absorbing the beauty of nature (even in the pouring rain!). I’m a great believer in movement as medicine so try to fit in a bit of running and pilates too. I also make sure that I myself see a chiropractor regularly so that I keep well and mobile to do my job properly!
Further Training
GCC Registered chiropractors are required to complete at least 30 hours of CPD (Continual Professional Development) annually. There’s always something new to learn and I find that there’s nothing like a good course for inspiration and keeping the passion for chiropractic alive. I’ve taken courses in Western Medical Acupuncture, Ultrasound therapy, Kinesiology taping, Muscle Energy Techniques and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation to name a few since graduating. All of these techniques are incorporated into treatment where appropriate.
What I Treat
Pain is usually what prompts a patient to visit me initially and I treat a variety of problems including back pain, neck pain, headaches, muscle spasms and shoulder problems.
