Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is 100% natural, and is a safe and effective method to help your joints, muscles and nerves function as well as they are designed to.

Daniel David (DD) Palmer performed the first chiropractic adjustment back in on Harvey Lillard, and a profession was born! Since then, influential research has underpinned the growth and awareness of this amazing profession to the where it is today – the third largest independent healthcare profession in the world. We here at The Cotswold Chiropractor are proud to be part of it!

Here’s How Chiropractic Works:

Your brain and body communicate via the spinal cord and nervous system. The nervous system controls all of your body’s processes- every organ, cell, gland, muscle, joint is instructed how to function trough messages from the nervous system. It’s like your body’s own wiring system!

If there’s interference with the wiring, these messages don’t get communicated so clearly and the signals don’t reach the intended body part, leading to pain and dysfunction. This can occur due to individual joints in the spine becoming restricted in their motion.

Our job as chiropractors is to examine your spine to locate these restricted regions and to use our gentle and effective adjustment techniques to restore proper motion again.

Causes of Joint Restrictions that lead to dysfunction and painful Symptoms:

Repetition of Movements – repeated patterns of movement using the same structures over and over agin over time at work, during exercise or leisure.

  • Poor Posture – We are all at risk in modern life- we are required to sit a lot more than we were designed to! If your head is too far forward it puts a great degree of stress into the joints of the spine, all of the muscles attaching to the skull bone and most importantly, onto your spinal cord and nerve roots.
  • Physical Trauma – Car accidents, slips on ice, falls, bicycle tumbles, sports injuries
  • Stress – Emotional load like anxiety can cause tight muscles which cam lead to joint restrictions in the spine.
  • Chemical – What you put into, or indeed onto, your body can increase the toxic load we bear and long term, how well we heal

How Chiropractic Care Can Help You:

We will examine your whole body to establish if there are spinal restrictions which may be causing poor patterns of movement, pain and interference with your nerves.

We use specific, gentle movements called ‘adjustments’ to improve the mobility, alignment and function in the restricted spinal segments.

Our techniques are low-force and gentle. We mainly use the sought after McTimoney method, famous for it’s swift, light and gentle whole-body approach. We often use the Activator adjusting tool, also very specific and again, low-force. Alongside the adjustments we also may use Western Medical Acupuncture (Dry Needling), the Kinnective soft tissue tool to help release knotty muscle, kinesiology taping for joint support and our fabulous Dr Graeme massager to release tension.

Our Approach

Our thorough initial testing leaves us confident in our plan to get you feeling more mobile and full of vitality. Once we start to adjust you we will build your adjustments up slowly per visit and measure your progress as we go. Regular reassessments will ensure we are on track.

This approach gives you the best chance of reducing or eliminating pain, restoring mobility and function in your neck, shoulders, upper and mid spine, lower spine, hips, pelvis and extremities (your limbs!) Simple lifestyle changes and specific exercises unique to your problems will be sent via email. This gives you the chance to reach your fullest potential by staying mobile and strong, hopefully with a positive mindset.

Our bodies have an amazing ability to self-heal, and chiropractic adjustments will help to facilitate this healing potential.

We Commonly See And Help:

  • General lower back pain (acute and chronic)
  • Sciatica
  • Mechanical neck pain
  • Cervicogenic headaches (caused by neck problems)
  • Joint pains from osteoarthritis
  • Muscle Spasms
